NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of millions of Americans living with serious mental illness and their families. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports, and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raising awareness and building a community of hope for all of those in need. NAMI Dubuque is the local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and serves as Dubuque’s Voice on Mental Illness for those in the tri-state community whose lives are affected by mental illness. We are located in the Schmid Innovation Center at 900 Jackson Street and share space with a number of other nonprofit organizations, together known as the Millwork Collective and dedicated to improving the lives of those in need in our community. NAMI Dubuque is a nonprofit and 100% volunteer organization and all of our services are open to the public and free of charge. NAMI’s cornerstones are support, education, and advocacy. We offer three different education courses for those with mental illness as well as for their families and caregivers. We also offer two monthly support groups, one for those with the lived experience of mental illness and one for their families and caregivers. In addition we offer monthly educational meetings featuring guest speakers, documentaries, etc. NAMI’s advocacy efforts focus on ensuring a healthcare system that provides fair and equal access to treatment for all of those in need. NAMI is committed to raising awareness of mental illness and combatting the relentless stigma surrounding it. NAMI offers the understanding that only those with the lived experience of mental illness can provide. People living with mental illness deserve a community that supports them and their families in their recovery. Mental illness devastates the lives of so many in our community and NAMI Dubuque exists to provide the support, education, and advocacy needed by those affected by mental illness.
